I have summarized for you Dr. Josh Axe’s Top Mistakes on
Using Essential Oils video on youtube.
Mistakes:
"Thinking that you can use as much Essential Oils (EOs) as
you want, simply because they’re a plant. Wrong! EOs are powerful and can affect
your health. Too much of a good thing is not necessarily good. For example,
some EOs will lower your blood sugar, which is a good thing unless you are on
medication to lower your sugar, it may go too low. Check with your doctor if
you are on prescription medications.
Disregarding quality. Many companies out there mix their EOs
with synthetic additives. Some have been sprayed with pesticides. Make sure the
company you buy from is tested by an independent 3rd party for purity.
Applying photosensitive oils to your skin and then sitting
in the sun. Be careful when applying citrus EOs and lemongrass on your skin
because they are photosensitive and can cause you to burn when in the sun.
Using all EOs the same. There are 3 ways to use EOs:
aromatic, internally, or topically. Not all EOs can be used in all 3 ways. Read
the label.
Diffusing for more than 8 hours. Again, too much of a good
thing is not necessarily good.
Thinking that any oil that is safe for humans is safe for
animals. The following oils should NOT be used on animals: birch, clove,
oregano, tea tree, thyme, wintergreen. The following oils are okay to use on
animals: lavender, frankincense, helichrysum.
Using the same amounts on children that you use on adults.
They should be diluted. And always use a carrier oil when used topically.
Using EOs when pregnant. However, diffusing lemon, or
ginger, or orange, or lavender, or frankincense is okay. Check with your
doctor."
