We
will be comparing CBD Oil with Copaiba Essential Oil. But
first,
we must examine the Endocannabinoid System (ECS)
We
have many systems in our bodies such as digestive system, respiratory system,
reproductive system, etc. The Endocannabinoid System was discovered in
the 1960s.
The Endocannabinoid
system (ECS) is a crucial molecular system that the
body uses to help maintain homeostasis (equilibrium
between physiological processes in our bodies). It may be involved in
regulating physiological and cognitive processes, including
appetite, pain-sensation, mood, and memory.
ECS is a system of 3 elements: (1)
receptors, (2) molecules, and (3) enzymes.
(1) Receptors:
There are 2 types of receptors: CB1 and CB2.
CB1
receptors are found mostly in the brain and spinal cord and the central nervous
system. Involved with psychoactive functions.
CB2
receptors are mostly involved with your immune system, but also found in the
heart, liver, lungs.
(2) Molecules:
There are molecules that interact within the ECS system. The 2 main molecules
are Endocannabinoids which are
produced by the body. And secondly, Phytocannabinoids which are plant
produced. Examples of plants with Phytocannabinoids are Melissa, Black pepper,
Cannabis, Black truffles, the Cacao plant, and Copaiba plant.
(3) Enzymes:
Maintain levels of endocannabinoids that our body naturally produces by
creating or destroying them as needed.
There
are 2 substances that interact with ECS System and produce physiological
response in the body: (1) Betacaryophylline,
which is found in the Copaiba plant and to a lesser degree in other plants such
as cinnamon, oregano, black pepper. And (2) CBD which
is only one of over 100 chemical compounds in the marijuana plant. It is not
THC. It is not psychoactive.
Let’s
compare these 2 substances.
(1) Betacaryophylline. The
Copaiba plant is 45-80% Betacaryophylline. This
substance selectively and DIRECTLY binds to CB2 receptors in the ECS system and
directly activates the CB2 receptors. This binding causes rapid changes in
cellular effects and long-lasting effects, stimulating your immune system. This
works on many different pathways in the body, even outside the ECS system,
helping many of our body’s systems for our well-being. The CB2 receptors
transmit signals inside the cell to modify cellular activity. They’re a target
to regulate immune and inflammatory response for healthy brain, musculoskeletal,
cardiovascular, digestive, and cellular function.
(2) CBD has
slower cellular effects because CBD doesn’t bind to the receptors very easily.
There is NO DIRECT binding to the receptors. CBD works more as a “helper” to
regulate other molecules that, in turn, directly bind to the receptors. THC
binds directly to the receptor, but not CBD. CBD works indirectly.
“Researchers
once believed that CBD attached to these CB2 receptors, but it now appears that
CBD does not attach directly to either receptor. Instead, it seems to direct
the body to use more of its own cannabinoids.” (Medical News Today, July 27,
2018)
Now
let’s talk about PURITY. A JAMA November 7, 2017 article published a study that
compared ingredients listed on the labels of cannabidiol products sold online
to actual product constituents determined by laboratory analysis.
They
found that 69% of CBD products on the market did NOT have the concentration of
CBD in the bottle that was on the label. In other words, 69% of the time the
product was mislabeled or adulterated. Only 39% of the online products were
labeled correctly. Also, many had a greater level of THC than is currently
allowed by federal regulations.
Clinical
doses of CBD can potentially harm the liver. On the other hand, Betacaryophylline
(in Copaiba) is safe and non-toxic.
The
Betacaryophylline (in Copaiba) is good for:
